In January 2023, we welcome Céline Braumann as the newest Assistant Professor, and a valuable addition to our roster of international law scholars.
Professor Braumann joins us from the Department of International Law at the University of Vienna in Austria, where, from 2016 to 2022, she was a lecturer and researcher. She is delighted about both her move to Canada and to the Faculty. “What I am most excited about – apart from taking up a dream position among inspiring colleagues and brilliant students – is to live in a country that still knows real wilderness,” she says.
She brings with her a wealth of international experience, having served at domestic and international courts, including the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice, where she worked as a Judicial Fellow to Judge James Crawford. She has also published and presented extensively on the intersection of public international law and international tax law. From May 2022 until her recent move to Ottawa, she supported the Austrian Foreign Ministry as a legal officer during turbulent times in international relations.
In spring 2023, she will defend her PhD research project entitled “The ‘International’ in International Tax Law”, which focuses on customary international law regarding international taxation. She holds law degrees from the University of Vienna and NYU School of Law, as well as a B.Sc. in economics.
A warm welcome to Professor Braumann. We wish you the best and thank you for joining us and contributing to the uOttawa Faculty of Law community.
