The Common Law Section recently hosted the 17th annual Nelligan Law First-Year Moot Court Competition. The competition, which has been sponsored by Nelligan Law since 2007, is designed to immerse students in the fundamentals of advocacy and experiential legal practice, just 10 weeks after beginning law school.

The 6th edition of the Michel-Bastarache Moot Court Competition was held on March 22-24.

For the third year in a row, the Faculty of Law (Common Law Section) has made it to the metaverse. On Nov. 18, it hosted the finals of its annual LeClair x uOttawa Metaverse Moot competition partially in person and partially in virtual reality (VR).

On March 25, the Faculty hosted the finals of the 2nd annual LeClair x uOttawa Metaverse Moot.

University of Ottawa law students Julia Kafato, Ana Nizharadze, and Jessica Rollins have won the prestigious Oxford International Intellectual Property Moot. During seven rounds of competition amidst the historic buildings of the University of Oxford, the team argued all sides of mock litigation involving copyright and pastiche in the context of movies.

uOttawa took home Best Team and Top Oral Advocate at the Tort Law Moot Competition, held virtually on March 3-4, 2023.

Here at Fauteux, a lot of learning takes place outside of the classroom! We are known nationally for our mooting programs.  It is in our DNA! 

Led by captain Daniella Febbraro, the uOttawa Common Law team featured Kaitlyn Margison and Alessandra Puopolo on the Appellant’s side, and Hannah Goold and Jordan Geist arguing the Respondent’s side. The team was coached by Professor Jeremy de Beer, Professor David Fewer, and Dr. Christian Clavette.
