Message from the Chair
Dear Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to share with you the 2021-2023 Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine Report, which highlights our many achievements in research, education, leadership, clinical care and quality over the past two years.
The last few years have been rife with change, and it is only natural that our annual department report changes with the times as well. As you have noticed, we have embarked on a new, interactive, web-based format. Huge kudos to Ms Kelsey Rice, who conceived and brought the entire concept to life. We hope you will find it easy and enjoyable to peruse!
The last few years have also been full of challenges as we navigated the waves of the pandemic. Time and time again, we faced our challenges head-on, and created new opportunities as we did so. As we emerge from under its shadow, we continue to strive for excellence in our education activities and research efforts, all while working hard to provide our community with access to care in the most compassionate way possible. As we move ahead, I look forward to collaborating with all of you and continuing our tradition of excellence in anesthesiology.
I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to make special mention of the many leadership changes in the department during this time (see ‘Our People”). Our leadership has worked in collaboration with all of you, to transition and transform our department. Please accept my thanks on behalf of the department for your tireless efforts – you have made your mark on the department and have created possibilities for shaping our future in ways that have only just begun!
Finally, it is only when we pause to review, that we see how our individual contributions over time summate to a whole that would not have been possible alone. I am incredibly proud of this department. Your hard work, creativity, and commitment to excellence have made all our acheivements possible. I am honored to lead such a talented and dedicated group of people, and I look forward to seeing all that we will achieve in the years to come.
Sincerely,
Michelle Chiu, MD FRCPC (she | her | elle)
