Biography
Dr. Geller completed an undergraduate training in Microbiology before entering medical school at the University of Toronto, where she graduated with her MD in 1991. She completed her residency program in family practice at the University of Ottawa in 1993 and in 1994 finished a PGY3 year in family practice at the University of Texas in San Antonio.
Since 1998, Dr. Geller has worked as at Centretown Community Health Centre with a major focus on her practice on working with people who are marginalized secondary to reasons such as homelessness, poverty, mental health and addiction issues and refugee issues.
She has held various administrative positions within the Department of Family Medicine where most recently she was the Director of Academic Support and Remediation. Since 2014, she has been involved in supporting residents in difficulty in Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) and became the PGME Director of academic support and remediation in 2016.
Dr. Geller has been involved in education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate medical levels at the University of Ottawa for a number of years. She is the Preclerkship Director for family medicine, Anglophone stream which includes being responsible for the creation and continuation of the Physician Skills Development (PSD) Community Placement program in 2006. Medical students and residents train at Centretown under the guidance of a multidisciplinary health care team, including Dr. Geller, to understand and appreciate the unique health care challenges marginalized populations experience in accessing health care and learning how to customize health care provision to best meet their health care needs. Dr. Geller received the Award of Excellence and Innovation in Postgraduate Medical Education in 2011 and he Educator Award for Collaborator Competency from the Undergraduate program at the University of Ottawa in 2012.
