The Department of Innovation in Medical Education (DIME) is a non-clinical department in the Faculty of Medicine that offers teaching, research and scholarship in the area of medical education.

DIME promotes innovation and advances in medical education scholarship and enables and evaluates breakthrough advances across the medical education continuum, including but not limited to:

DIME’s goal is to be the University of Ottawa’s primary resource for expertise in medical education research, with a mandate to support education and educational scholarship in clinical medicine locally, nationally and internationally. In addition to conducting research in medical education, DIME will disseminate best practices and innovations in medical education and support scholarship in teaching, integration and application.

Included within DIME are the Division of Clinical and Functional Anatomy, the Core Research Unit and the Medicine & Humanities program.

Additionally, in order to enhance collaboration and provide support to medical educators at all levels of the Faculty’s clinical and basic science departments, DIME will support and promote departmental programs, including fellowships, grants and the medical education day, as well as the Health care Education Scholars Program (HESP). The Core Research Unit will be a gateway for expertise to enhance research intensity in medical education.

Dr. Vicki LeBlanc is the Chair of the Department of Innovation in Medical Education since May 1, 2015.
