Geriatric Medicine is a branch of medicine focused on the care and well-being of elderly individuals, addressing their unique healthcare needs and age-related conditions.

Geriatric Medicine is a branch of Internal Medicine that focuses on the promotion of health, and the prevention and treatment of disease and disability in later life. Our mission is to provide each older adult and their families with the world-class care, exceptional service, and compassion that we would want for our loved ones.

The Division of Geriatric Medicine and the Regional Geriatric Program of Eastern Ontario (RGPEO) are based at the Civic Campus of The Ottawa Hospital. We provide a coordinated and comprehensive range of specialized Geriatric services throughout the region. 

The Division is considered a leader in medical education targeted at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and CME levels, with a particular focus on assessment tools for Dementia and Delirium. In addition, our expertise includes clinical and research activities focused on Falls Prevention in the Older Person, Delirium in Acute Care, Polypharmacy and Deprescribing, Geriatric Medicine in the Emergency Department, Medical Assistance in Dying, the assessment of Driving in the Older Person, Dementia Care, and Physician Wellness.
