Biography
Dr. Smith obtained his BS with Honours in Biochemistry followed by a diploma in clinical epidemiology and doctor of medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He served for four years on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Newfoundland. He completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Ottawa. In residency, he was active with the Professional Association of Residents in Ontario (PARO), completing a leadership program and serving on the PARO General Council. While on 4N, Andrew led an interdisciplinary communication initiative and started a research project on intentional swallowing with collaborators in gastroenterology. As part of his new position, he will continue to work on 4N on a rotation schedule (29 weeks, 0.6 FTE) and provide consultations for concurrent mental and substance use disorders and other clinical work in coordination with the substance abuse consultation service in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and provide to be determined clinical coverage (0.2 FTE). His career development plan (0.2 FTE), will include training in leadership and quality improvement to prepare him for clinical leadership. He will continue his current research and be involved in a research project with Marco Solmi.
