Biography

Dr. Nath brings extensive leadership expertise to his role, underpinned by a strong connection to the Faculty of Medicine. A uOttawa alumnus, he completed both his MD and residency training here before joining the departments of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He currently is an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Nath further expanded his expertise with an MSc in public health–health services management from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and recently completed the Schulich Mini-MBA: Physician Business Leadership Program. He has served as program director for uOttawa’s Enhanced Skills Program in Emergency Medicine for 14 years and sits on the Royal College Specialty Committee in Emergency Medicine. He is also the former chair of the national emergency residency directors’ group, where he advocated for residents and programs at a national level.

Renowned for his collaborative style, Dr. Nath is dedicated to building consensus and driving change. He embraces transformative leadership, focusing on empowering teams and optimizing processes to achieve lasting impact. He has contributed to peer-reviewed research in advancing medical education in Canada, with a particular focus on competency-based training and transition-to-practice curricula. He fosters a dynamic research environment by promoting collaboration, open communication, and resource and expertise sharing.

A dedicated educator, Dr. Nath’s commitment to teaching and mentorship has been recognized through multiple award nominations at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is a fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (FCFP). He also contributes as an expert member of the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) Accreditation Standards Improvement Committee and has served as an external surveyor on four accreditation visits to Canadian medical training programs. Over his 18-year career, he has presented at numerous national and international conferences and workshops.
