Biography
Dr Carolina Souza is a thoracic radiologist at the Department of Medical Imaging, cross-appointed to the Department of Medicine, Respirology Division, an Associate Professor of the University of Ottawa and a Clinical Investigator at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Dr Souza is originally from Brazil where she obtained her MD degree and completed her residency training followed by a PhD in Radiology at the University of Rio de Janeiro. In 2006, she completed a 2-year fellowship in thoracic radiology at the Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia, under the supervision of Dr. Nestor Muller. Since the completion of her fellowship, Dr Souza has been working as a thoracic radiologist at The Ottawa Hospital where she has been actively involved in teaching, research and multidisciplinary care. She is currently the Undergraduate Program Director of Radiology after a 9-year tenure as Director of the Thoracic Imaging Fellowship program. Dr Souza is a passionate teacher and has received various teaching awards. Her work has been crucial to the implementation of the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic at The Ottawa Hospital and she has been the chief radiologist of the ILD Multidisciplinary Discussion Meetings since 2013. She has over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals, over 170 abstracts in medical conferences and has participated in the development of various national imaging guidelines, technical reports and advisory committees. Dr Souza has been an invited lecturer in numerous national and international conferences, including the RSNA International Visiting Professor Program. Dr Souza’s main areas of interest include interstitial lung diseases, advances in lung cancer and medical education.
