Biography
Hany Bissada MD, FRCPC is a psychiatrist and the former Director (1998-2016) of the Regional Centre for the Treatment of Eating Disorders at the Ottawa Hospital. He is currently Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Bissada, was awarded C.A. Roberts Award by the Canadian Psychiatric Association for Clinical Leadership and for his instrumental role in establishing the Regional Centre for the Treatment of Eating Disorders. He is attending staff and consultant; he contributed to numerous publications on the topic of eating disorders.
He successfully completed and published, in the American Journal of Psychiatry (October 2008), one of the first RCTs using Olanzapine in the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa.
He also acts as an external adviser regularly reviewing Eating Disorder Programs (e.g. For the Department of Psychiatry at Queen's University in Kingston) and Adult Eating Disorders Model of Care (e.g. For the British Columbia Mental Health & Addiction Services).
He previously worked with the Task Force for The Mental Health Crisis Intervention Services and received a Fellowship in Eating Disorders from the University of Toronto.
