Biography
Dr Worthington graduated from the University of Birmingham, UK, and completed house positions before practicing as a family physician in Northern Canada & England. He completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa.
He practiced Emergency Medicine at The Ottawa Hospital for over 25 years. During that time, he held many leadership positions including UG and PG Director Emergency Medicine University of Ottawa; Head Department of Emergency Medicine; Corporate Medical Director Emergency/Critical Care/Trauma; Medical Director Critical Eastern Ontario.
Dr. Worthington spent 16 years on senior management before retiring as Executive Vice-President, Medical Affairs,Quality & Performance. His focus has been on Quality & Safety of Care, Physician Engagement & Leadership. He completed a fellowship in health services research with Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, is an Assistant professor in Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa.In 2013, he received “The Excellence in Medical Leadership Award” from The Canadian Society of Physician Executives.
Dr. Worthington has been the National Medical Advisor to Correctional Service Canada (CSC), since 2016.In this role, he has a number of responsibilities including, but not limited to, the provision of advice and recommendations on the organization, delivery, quality and safety of health services within CSC. He chairs CSC’s National Medical Advisory Committee and reviews health issues related to inmate care as they arise and provides medical advice for CSC Health Services Senior Management.
