Biography

After obtaining a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2002, Jean-Michel Rabanel worked for several years as a research assistant and in laboratory design at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Pharmacy. After obtaining a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2015, focusing on the physicochemical properties of polymeric drug carriers, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at INRS Centre Armand Frappier in the laboratory of Prof. C. Ramassamy, working on the themes of brain delivery in the context of Alzheimer's disease and the protection of natural antioxidants. More recently, working in the laboratory of Pr X. Banquy's laboratory at the Université de Montréal, he focused on the potential of molecular brushes for brain delivery and nucleic acid encapsulation.

Expertise

  • Galenics
  • Physicochemical properties of active ingredients
  • Properties and roles of polymers in pharmaceutical sciences
  • Characterization of nanomaterials for pharmaceutical applications

Research Projects

Jean-Michel Rabanel's research has focused on nanotechnologies applied to improving the delivery of active ingredients, particularly polymer-based delivery systems. In particular, he has studied the relationship between polymer architecture and function when assembled into nano-objects, i.e. interactions with biological media, entry into cells, crossing of biological barriers, biodistribution in model organisms and release of active ingredients.
