Biography
Dr. Oppenheimer completed his medical training at St. Johns College, Oxford University and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London University. He was a Senior Registrar in Obstetrics & Gynecology at University College Hospital, London where he obtained his specialist certification in the UK in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1990. He then completed Fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Toronto.
In October 1991, he joined the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Ottawa Hospital. He was Head of the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine and Site Lead for Obstetrics at the General Campus from 2008-2018. He has chaired a number of hospital committees related to obstetrical practice including the perinatal care committee and the obstetrical quality assurance committee and was Vice Chair (Obstetrics and Gynecology) of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee for CPSO. He has publications on a wide range of obstetrical topics, and his most recent research has studied the impact of maternal heart rate artefact in electronic fetal monitoring. Dr. Oppenheimer is a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa and is a past Chair of the Undergraduate Education Committee of the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Canada. He retired from clinical obstetrics in 2019 and continues to work in ultrasound.
