Biography

Dr. Mike Pickell is an orthopaedic surgeon and assistant professor at The University of Ottawa specializing in complex knee reconstruction. He completed his primary medical degree and orthopeadic residency at Queen’s University. His fellowship training included a trauma fellowship at Queen’s University followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at New York University Hospital for Joint Disease. Dr. Pickell’ clinical practice focuses on complex soft tissue reconstruction and joint preservation surgery of the knee. Dr. Pickell is actively involved in the athletic community. He is team Physician for the Ottawa Senators NHL hockey team as well as the lead orthopeadic surgeon for University of Ottawa varsity athletics. Dr. Pickell’s research focus surrounds effective pain management strategies, opioid reduction, basic science and biomechanics of the knee, and clinical outcomes in sports medicine procedures. He is an active member of AANA, AOSSM, and ISAKOS sport medicine societies and has been an invited lecturer both nationally and internationally. In his spare time he enjoys playing hockey and golf and travelling for the latter.
