Dr. Michael Woo is an Emergency Physician and Trauma Team Leader at the Ottawa Hospital and a Full Professor with the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He is the Research Director for Acute Care Point-of-Care Ultrasonography with the Department of Emergency Medicine. He is also the Lead for POCUS for Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Ottawa.
He started his passion with POCUS by acquiring sonographer RDMS certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 2008. He has since developed one of the first POCUS fellowships in Canada in 2009 with over 20 graduated fellows practicing around the world. He was recently the vice-chair of the working group that founded the Area of Focused Competence in Acute Care POCUS Diploma by the RCPSC. Recognizing that you never stop learning, he acquired Testamur status Critical Care Echocardiography with the National Board of Echocardiography in 2020.
