Biography

Peggy J. Kleinplatz, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Director of the Optimal Sexual Experiences Research Team at the University of Ottawa. She is cross-appointed as a Professor of Education. She is a clinical psychologist, Certified in Sex Education and as a Diplomate and Supervisor of Sex Therapy. Since 1983, she has been teaching Human Sexuality at the University of Ottawa, where she received the Prix d'Excellence in 2000. Kleinplatz has edited/authored six books, notably New Directions in Sex Therapy: Innovations and Alternatives, (Routledge, 2nd Edition), winner of the AASECT 2013 Book Award and Sexuality and Ageing (2015) with Dr. Walter Bouman. Her fifth book, Magnificent Sex: Lessons from Extraordinary Lovers with co-author A. Dana Ménard, Ph.D. received the 2021 consumer Book Award from the Society for Sex Therapy and Research. In 2015, Kleinplatz received the Professional Standard of Excellence Award from the American Association of Sexuality Editors, Counsellors and Therapists. Her clinical work focuses on eroticism and transformation. Her current research focuses on optimal sexual experience, with a particular interest in sexual health in older adults, disabled and marginalized populations. Dr. Kleinplatz is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.
