Biography
Ram Brender will be joining our faculty following a clinical fellowship at CAMH focused on therapeutic brain intervention and geriatric psychiatry with Drs. Benoit Mulsant and Daniel Blumberger. A truly international physician, Dr. Brender received his M.D. in 2009 from Semmelweis University Medical School in Budapest, Hungary. He completed his residency in psychiatry at Beer-Yaacov Mental Health Center, affiliated with Tel Aviv University, where he served as chief resident in his final year. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry in Israel and obtained a geriatric psychiatry diploma from Tel Aviv University. Prior to moving to Canada, he was a Senior Staff Geriatric Psychiatrist and led a multidisciplinary team in the management of geriatric inpatients. His research with Drs. Mulsant and Blumberger, who will continue to serve as external mentors, has focused on the treatment of late life depression. His position at TOH will involve work on inpatient psychiatry, with a focus on geriatric psychiatry 38 weeks per year on a rotation schedule. He will also work preferentially with older adults in the Prompt Care Clinic, a partnership between The Ottawa Hospital and the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. His academic plan includes involvement in quality improvement projects under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Kaluzienski and will be advised by Dr. Robert Swenson. He will be active in the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry and the International Society for ECT and Neurostimulation.
