Biography
Dr. Islam is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Islam was the Residency Program Director for Anatomical Pathology (2011-2021) and General Pathology (2011-2016) at the University of Ottawa for The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). He is the Founder member and currently the Chair of the AFC Cytopathology Specialty Committee at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Prior to his arrival here in Ottawa, Dr. Islam practiced medicine as a full-time faculty member in the Feinberg School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology at Northwestern University and a staff physician at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Islam did his residency training in the United States in Anatomical Pathology at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, Ohio. He then did his fellowship trainings in Surgical Pathology (Breast and Gynecological pathology) and Cytopathology at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, Ohio and University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Texas, respectively. Dr. Islam also holds a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Islam is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). He is also certified by the American Board of Medical specialties in Anatomic Pathology and a Fellow of the College of American Pathologist (CAP) and American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
