Biography

Dr. Susan Lamb holds the Jason A. Hannah Chair in History of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, one of eight such named chairs at Canadian medical schools endowed by AMS Healthcare. In addition to many articles published in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Lamb is the co-editor of a pathbreaking volume on the history of medical education called Transforming Medical Education: Historical Case Studies of Teaching, Learning, and Belonging (McGill-Queen’s, 2022) and author of the award-winning monograph Pathologist of the Mind: Adolf Meyer and the Origins of American Psychiatry (Johns Hopkins, 2014). An Associate Professor based in the Faculty of Medicine and cross-appointed to the Department of History, they supervise graduate research in history of medicine as well as history-based projects in health humanities. A Canadian, Dr. Lamb obtained a PhD from the Institute of the History of Medicine at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
