Academic Accommodations - Graduate, TMM, Pharm D

The University of Ottawa is committed to providing students with disabilities academic accommodations to allow them an equitable opportunity to fully access and participate in the learning environment with dignity, autonomy, and without impediment while preserving academic freedom, integrity, and standards.

The Academic Accommodations Service works with the University of Ottawa community to support students with disabilities. Any student who may require academic accommodations because of a temporary or permanent disability or medical condition is encouraged to register with the Academic Accommodations Service.

Examples include:

  • Mental health diagnoses (e.g. GAD, MDD)
  • Chronic illness or physical conditions (e.g. Crohn’s, migraines, diabetes)
  • ADHD
  • Learning disabilities (e.g. Dyslexia)
  • Vision and hearing impairments
  • Mobility impairments
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Temporary conditions (e.g. broken arm, concussion, etc..)

Accommodations can be provided at all levels of study and in various settings, including the classroom, assessments, laboratories, placements, clinical settings, and experiential learning environments. Students are encouraged to begin the registration process before classes start, as it may take up to 60 days for accommodations to be put in place, depending on the nature of the student's required accommodations.  Initial steps include creating a Ventus profile, completing an intake form, and gathering/uploading appropriate medical documentation to Ventus.  It is important to note that students must be enrolled in courses before scheduling an initial appointment with a Learning Specialist.

The academic accommodations process is collaborative, involving the learner, Learning Specialist, health care provider, and relevant faculty members.
