1.1 A professor emeritus shall:
a. have made an exceptional contribution to university life either through research or through contribution to other areas of university activity. Examples of ‘exceptional contribution’ might include: published research that has brought recognition to the University; innovations in educational programs or delivery in clinical or basic sciences; exceptional contribution to administration and leadership, such as leading curriculum change or chairing a department through impressive growth;
b. have been a Full Professor as Full Time Academic (FTA) with continued contribution at the University of Ottawa; and
c. the request should be made within six (6) months before or twelve (12) months after the individual ceases to be a member of the academic staff of the University of Ottawa and is eligible for retirement;
d. Notwithstanding, the Faculty of Medicine can make exceptions to clause c above should the Faculty Member meet the criteria for professor emeritus status.
e. A professor emeritus may still hold appointments at the affiliated hospitals but shall not be considered for regular full-time or part-time academic appointments at the University.
