The Department of Family Medicine is a leader in Family Medicine, delivering excellent education, innovative research and strong advocacy in support of high quality sustainable primary care in both official languages. Its goal is to advance their social accountability mandate locally and globally. To do this they define Global Health program objectives to promote social equality locally, nationally and worldwide, and contribute to international development of Medical education. Current programs include the development of a Family Medicine residency training program in Guyana, development of a Department of Family Medicine in the Ottawa-Shanghai School of Medicine and programs to serve vulnerable populations in Ottawa, the North and Benin.

Purpose of Fund
To financially support a student registered to the MD program or to any other program at the University of Ottawa, or a resident at the Faculty of Medicine who will participate in a global health initiative supported by the Department of Family Medicine as part of his/her program.

Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a person with the protected/refugee status or an international student;
- Be registered as a full-time student to the MD program or to any other program at the University of Ottawa OR be a resident in Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine;
- Have applied and been approved for participation in a global health initiative supported by the Department of Family Medicine, as part of his/her program.

Application Procedure
Applications must be made through Online Scholarships and Bursaries, and should include:
- A copy of the applicant’s transcript;
- A letter of support from the applicant’s supervisor;
- A letter of intent from the applicant detailing the objective of the initiative and the anticipated outcome; and
- Proof that the applicant’s participation to the initiative has been approved by his/her faculty as part of his/her program.
