The Civic Family Health Team, part of the Ottawa Hospital Academic Family Health Team, is made up of 14 clinician educators who are committed to helping you develop into a reflective, skilled, and patient‐centered family physician. We are located on the Civic Campus at the Ottawa Hospital, which is adjacent to the main highway and close to many neighborhoods such as Westboro, Hintonburg, Little Italy and the Experimental farm area. Our staff are organized into three teams, with at least four full-time physicians and two nurses. We usually assign two to three residents to each physician with a total of 32 residents at our site.
We deliver continuous, comprehensive care that focuses on our patients. Residents at the Civic site benefit from the following:
- Being part of a shared care model with two nurse practitioners, six nurses, full‐time dietician, pharmacist, social worker, diabetes team, a psychiatry team practicing shared care
- Located at the Ottawa Hospital where majority of off service rotations will be.
- Being part of a large resident network to learn from and get support from
- A fully equipped minor surgical room which is used daily and for our biweekly procedural clinic (all residents are scheduled during FM rotations).
- Biweekly skin clinic led by one of our physicians with a special interest in dermatology, a weekly OB Clinic at Somerset West CHC, and a monthly Chronic Pain clinic.
- Longitudinal enrichment opportunity with our preceptors at a long-term care home
- Weekly OB clinic led by 2 of our FMOB staff physicians, and a monthly reproductive spectrum clinic supervised by a rotation of 4 of our staff physicians for a range of uterine procedures and issues, such as IUD insertions, endometrial biopsies, paps, menopause concerns etc.
We are the sister site to the Riverside Family Health Team, so all allied health workers, after hours clinics, master schedule, FMOB teaching, and call schedules are shared between our sites.
