In collaboration with the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, we offer French as a second language (FSL) courses geared towards French in a medical environment.

Eligibility

FSL courses are intended employees of the Faculty of Medicine or students, researchers and physicians studying or working in hospitals affiliated with the University of Ottawa. Faculty of Medicine, Montfort Hospital, The Ottawa Hospital or the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario are eligible to apply.

Course descriptions

FSL course options are offered twice a year, either from January to April or September to December. Not all courses are offered each session. 

Beginner: Reading and written expression (FLS 2621)

Tuesdays, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (January to April only, biennial)

Revision and systematization of the French linguistic code and its application to oral comprehension and production activities (pronunciation, spelling-phonics relationship, oral grammar and active vocabulary) focusing on oral comprehension and production strategies, practical oral comprehension and expression exercises: free conversations, short presentations, role-playing, activities based on authentic communication tasks from the university administrative environment. Individual practice.

Elementary: Oral comprehension and expression (FLS 2622)
