Biography

Gillian Lord was appointed Director of Strategic Planning and Implementation at the Faculty of Medicine in January 2020. Ms. Lord joins the Executive Leadership Team in this new role, which was created to achieve the ambitious goals in the Faculty’s 2020-2025 strategic plan. Ms. Lord is responsible for promoting and coordinating the implementation of the strategic plan and related initiatives, as well as researching and monitoring emerging key issues and areas of priority for the Faculty of the University of Ottawa. Ms. Lord takes great pride in the Faculty’s numerous accomplishments during her time in this position, and throughout her diverse career with the Faculty.

Ms. Lord has over 24 years of management experience in a university and health-related environment. She began her career at the Faculty of Medicine as the Graduate Studies Academic Advisor in the Anatomy and Neurobiology Program in 1993. After three years, she stepped into the role of Manager of the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, and one year later she began twelve years of service as Operations Manager for the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. In 2009, Ms. Lord became Manager of the Research Office, remaining at the post for eleven years until moving into her current role.

A self-motivated manager with a customer service operations-oriented background, Ms. Lord has built a track record of success in project management, organizational decision-making and team building. Her strong leadership skills have been fundamental in advancing the best interests of the Faculty of Medicine.
