Headshot of Drs. Manisha Kulkarni & Emilio I. Alarcón
The University Research Chairs return this year with a bold focus on tackling pressing challenges both locally and globally. Among this year’s recipients, two outstanding researchers from the Faculty of Medicine are driving innovation in health and biomedical sciences.

Dr. Emilio I. Alarcón (UOHI/BMI) is pioneering peptide-based materials to repair tissues and organs, offering scalable, clinically viable solutions for an aging population. His work is advancing Canada’s biotechnology sector and bringing next-generation treatments closer to patients.

Dr. Manisha Kulkarni (SEPH) is investigating how climate change influences the spread of infectious diseases in Ontario and Tanzania. By combining geospatial modeling with risk assessment, her research is shaping global strategies to combat emerging health threats.

These researchers exemplify the Faculty’s commitment to groundbreaking discoveries that improve lives. Congratulations to our new University Research Chairs as they push the boundaries of science and innovation!
