MUSCULOSKELETAL RADIOLOGIST

(With Section Head Opportunity)

The Department of Medical Imaging at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is seeking a fellowship-trained musculoskeletal radiologist for a full-time position starting April 1st, 2023, or thereafter to join the Musculoskeletal Imaging Section of a department of approximately 60 sub-specialty radiologists. The candidates will serve the three campuses of The Ottawa Hospital, the core adult teaching hospital for the University of Ottawa, as well as affiliated community hospitals and ancillary programs.

As a Section Member or Section Head, the successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a highly efficient team for providing dedicated musculoskeletal expertise supporting strong programs in ER/trauma, orthopaedic surgery, oncology, rheumatology, physiatry and sports medicine. S/he will have broad musculoskeletal skills in all modalities including radiography, ultrasound, CT and MRI. The candidate will also perform a wide range of image guided interventional procedures, including biopsies, aspirations, arthrograms and spine injections. Skills and/or interest in scholarly activity and research is considered a strong asset.

S/he will be expected to be a supportive team player, with a strong commitment to patient care, quality improvement, research and teaching. The successful candidate will hold certification in Diagnostic Radiology with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or international equivalent.

As the central hub of an integrated regional health system and Canada’s largest teaching and research hospital, TOH is a level 1 trauma, 1,200-bed tertiary, academic health sciences centre serving a population of 1.2M. The Ottawa Hospital is the core adult teaching hospital for the University of Ottawa.

The Department of Medical Imaging, at The Ottawa Hospital is one of five departments or divisions and three hospital groups contributing to the academic mission of the Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics, within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa. The Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics comprises 58 Radiologists, 22 Radiation Oncologists, 18 Medical Physicists, 5 scientists (with skills in virtual reality, imaging processing and artificial intelligence), 1 educationalist, 47 residents, and 30 fellows. The Department has an established record of recognized excellence in postgraduate, graduate, and undergraduate Medical Imaging education. The Department oversees a Preclinical Imaging Core equipped with 7T MRI, IVIS, Ultrasound, and PET-CT facilitating basic science research. The affiliated Ottawa Hospital Research Institute provides world-class research support and opportunities for collaborative translational Medical Imaging research.

The Department of Medical Imaging at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) is seeking a fellowship trained Cardiothoracic radiologist for a full-time position starting July 3, 2023 to join the Cardiac and Thoracic Imaging Sections of a department of approximately 60 sub-specialty radiologists. Radiologists with fellowship training in Thoracic Radiology may also apply. The candidate will serve the three campuses of The Ottawa Hospital, the core adult teaching hospital for the University of Ottawa, as well as affiliated community hospitals and ancillary programs.

As part of the Cardiac and Thoracic Imaging Sections, the successful candidate will be responsible to work collaboratively within a highly efficient team providing dedicated Cardiothoracic expertise and interpreting in- and out-patient studies. The candidate will require broad skills in all relevant modalities, including radiography, CT , and MRI. The candidate should excel at various thoracic procedures including thoracic biopsies and small bore chest tube insertions. The successful candidate will provide consultations for the full spectrum of Cardiothoracic diseases. Skills and/or interest in scholarly activity and research are required.

Congratulations to everyone from TOH who participated in CARO this year. Ottawa was well represented including a few major highlights:

• Dr Mark Corkum was this year’s CBG Jean Roy invited speaker and gave a fantastic talk titled: Brachytherapy Training: How Do We Construct a Renaissance?
• Dr Laura Burgess was recognized with the award for Best Resident Poster Presentation. L. Burgess, W AlDuwaisan, T. Le, R. Samant, “Evaluation of Use of Adjuvant Radiotherapy and Surgical Approach with Respect to Oncologic Outcomes in the Management of Early-Stage Cervical Carcinoma” at Canadian Association of Radiation Oncology Annual Meeting 2022, Toronto, ON
• Dr Matthew Beckett presented in both the global oncology forum and the population science session on: Tumour and Patient Factors Influencing the Use of Adjuvant Radiotherapy in Locally Advanced Head and Neck Cancer
• Dr Nair’s team had a poster discussion session on Neuromodulatory Effects and Dose Response of Functional Radiosurgery on Cortical Neurons
• Posters were presented by Dr Burgess, Dr Jooya, Dr Malakouti-Nejad, Dr Song, Dr Babadagli and Dr Samant as well as Dr Pantarotto and CCO team

In October, CHEO's new state-of-the-art IR/Cath lab officially opened! The IR/Cath lab will support some of CHEO's sickest children and youth, without the need to travel offsite.
