Focusing primarily on collaborations in the fields of obstetrics, gynecology and newborn health, the partnership between the faculties was first established in 2000.
The University of Fukui is located in the city of Fukui, Japan and was established in 1949 and incorporated pursuant to the National University Corporation Act. Its medical school was founded in 1978.
Towards the end of 2020, uOttawa’s dean of medicine, Dr. Bernard Jasmin and Dr. Hironobu Naiki, dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Fukui electronically signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
This agreement provides the framework for strengthening the activities that are taking place under this partnership, such as visiting scholar exchanges, knowledge transfers, and the continuation and development of joint research programs, workshops and seminars.
“While the global pandemic prevented us from hosting the University of Fukui in 2020 to formalize this important MOU in person at uOttawa, we look forward to continuing this exciting and impactful collaboration which will serve to advance our mutual academic goals in teaching and research,” said Dr. Mark Walker, interim vice-dean of Internationalization and Global Health at the uOttawa Faculty of Medicine.
uOttawa Faculty of Medicine has a vision to ensure impactful and diverse partnerships which align with its strategic direction and values, and this agreement is an excellent example of the Faculty’s continued commitment to international collaboration.
