On December 8th, Dr. Bradwejn hosted the 2016 Faculty of Medicine Awards in Education at a ceremony at RGN, an opportunity to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of students and faculty members.
A large audience gathered for the awards presentation, opened by the Dean and emceed by Kay-Anne Haykal, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs. Dr. Haykal prefaced the event with an address highlighting the importance of developing coping skills as well as a healthy work-life balance in one’s pursuit of excellence.
“Resilient individuals not only bounce back, but also grow stronger in the process,” Dr. Haykal said.
The afternoon’s awards incorporated winners from UGME, PGME and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, as well as Continuing Professional Development. Though not all in attendance, more than 100 individuals were honoured as part of the day’s awards. Presenters included vice-deans, department chairs and program directors from across the Faculty, with dozens of awards being handed out.
“We’re here to celebrate the important role you play,” he noted.
Dean Bradwejn acknowledged the day as an opportunity to recognize winners for their extraordinary efforts.
Dr. Bradwejn invited Emilie Deschner, President of the Aesculapean Society, to have the last word of the ceremony. Ms. Deschner thanked the University for recognizing students with the day’s awards of excellence, and for continuing to make uOttawa a place of learning and discovery.
Guests were welcomed to mingle with award recipients over refreshments at a reception following the ceremony in the RGN Atrium.
