Have you ever wanted to try your hand at brain surgery? Are you fascinated by viral outbreaks? Or do you simply just love learning about medical science? If so, then you may want to consider adding the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine to your dance card for this year’s Doors Open Ottawa.
Doors Open Ottawa is an annual event that gives members of the community access to buildings they might not otherwise have a chance to see. On Sunday, June 3 the Faculty of Medicine will offer two guided tours to the public, one highlighting the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute’s (uOBMRI) work with Parkinson’s Disease, the other showcasing the Centre for Infection, Immunity and Inflammation (CI3). Both tours will be hands-on, giving guests a small taste of what it’s like to be a scientist.
In addition to the tours, visitors will be treated to interactive demonstrations, information booths, and activities for children. Two MD students will also be on hand to answer questions for anyone curious about applying to medical school and training to become a doctor. Note that the tours will be offered in English only, and a minimum age of 6-years-old is required.
