Dr. Antoine Hakim to Participate in a Senate Panel Discussion on Dementia

The neuroscientist will join the Parliament Hill discussion to share his many years of insight into the debilitating disease.

Dr. Antoine Hakim, Professor with the Faculty of Medicine, will participate in an upcoming panel discussion on dementia, hosted by The Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology.

On Monday, January 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Parliament’s Centre Block, a panel featuring a caregiver, a dementia patient, academics, advocates and medical experts will discuss how Canada can support the increasing number of people living with dementia.

Senator Kelvin Kenneth Ogilvie, Chair of the Senate Committee, will moderate the event and lead the discussion. Topics of note include the availability of support services following a dementia diagnosis, support for caregivers, improved training of health care providers, and greater access to assisted living facilities.

Dr. Hakim is a professor in Neurology at the University of Ottawa as well as Senior Neurologist at The Ottawa Hospital. Forty years of experience and research into the brain and its functions has given Dr. Hakim much insight into the illness.
