Effective immediately, Dr. Bernard Jasmin will take on the role of Vice President, Research, with the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC).

For the last 20 months, Dr. Jasmin had been acting as Chair of the Research Committee at the AFMC, which is composed of all Vice Deans of Research from Canadian Medical Schools.

Work of this committee led, for example, to formal submissions of documents by the AFMC to the Naylor panel and the CIHR International Peer Review Expert Panel, to ensure that the collective interests and views of health researchers and trainees at Faculties of Medicine are well represented. More recently, work from this committee also led the AFMC to submit letters to Ministers Kristy Duncan and Jane Philpott concerning the recruitment of leaders on the Canadian scientific scene.

Dr. Jasmin will maintain his leadership role as Vice Dean, Research, in our Faculty while also continuing with his research program focused on neuromuscular diseases.
