On Sunday June, 2 the Faculty of Medicine welcomed more than 350 visitors to the Faculty of Medicine for Doors Open Ottawa. During the day, people of all ages were welcomed into our labs to learn about everything from how yeast is used as a tool in biomedical research to how movement is generated by the brain.
This is the third year the Faculty of Medicine has taken part in this city-wide event, which gives members of the community access to buildings they wouldn’t otherwise have a chance to see.
This year, we offered nearly 40 recurring workshops to our guests, along with activities for children and an information booth about our programs in the atrium. None of this would have been possible without dozens of volunteers. On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine, thank you to the staff, Faculty and learners who came out and made this event possible. Not only did you help convey our important work to the community – but in many cases, your enthusiasm was contagious. It was so nice to see the curiosity and interest that your work sparked in our visitors, ranging from toddlers to seniors.
A huge amount of gratitude is also owed to our diligent organizing committee, led by Dr. Diane Lagace and Catherine Dumoulin. Your many hours spent recruiting workshop leaders and planning event logistics were critical to the day’s success.
