Staff from across the University gathered at Montpetit Hall on May 1 for the annual Founders' Breakfast. This event recognizes the work and commitment of uOttawa’s dedicated employees and highlights those celebrating years of service milestones.
The Faculty of Medicine was in the spotlight throughout the morning. During the President’s remarks on the importance of continuing to improve the culture of diversity and inclusion across the University, Dr. Steffany Bennett, Faculty of Medicine professor and Research Chair in Neurolipidomics, was thanked and lauded for her work as Special Advisor, Diversity and Inclusion.
FoM’s crown achievement came during the presentation of the President’s Awards for Service Excellence, an honour bestowed annually to only four individual employees and two teams for consistently showing creativity and initiative in meeting client needs and improving the university experience. Jennifer Dale, FoM human resource generalist, earned this honour due to her work ethic and contributions to the FoM, including her initiative in partnering with researchers to find novel ways to minimize the impending increase in hiring costs in their labs as a result of Bill 148. Jennifer also stepped up to the plate when her department was short-staffed to fill the gaps and guaranteed her team’s high quality of customer service – covering for various teammates and taking on challenges outside of the normal scope of her position. Despite the extra demands, Jennifer never sacrificed outstanding customer service to her varied clientele including clinicians, researchers, support staff, and managers.
A number of other FoM employees were also among those applauded, this time for their many years of service to the University. Our longest serving employees recognized this year include Linda Chenard, Martine Desaulniers, Daniel Émard, Karen Littlejohn and André Purdy, all celebrating 30 years with uOttawa.
