Zoom fatigue gave way to zoom elation at the first-ever virtual Faculty of Medicine Awards in Education ceremony on December 14, 2020.
The online event recognized the outstanding academic achievements of 118 students and faculty members from basic science undergraduate studies (Translational and Molecular Medicine), postdoctoral studies, graduate studies, postgraduate medical education and undergraduate medical education.
Dean Bernard Jasmin, appearing by video conference at the live-streamed event, thanked and congratulated the laureates for their incredible resilience and support of one another during the pandemic.
“For some of you, I know this year has been challenging, and at times, heartbreaking. You’ve had to make sacrifices, adapt to new ways of learning and teaching, and even cancel or postpone exciting projects due to reduced lab capacities and limited in-person contact,” Dr. Jasmin said.
“But the love you have for your work, the kindness you show your fellow peers, and the perseverance you embody in the face of these challenges, have allowed our community to continue to achieve success.”
The featured student speaker was Chisom Okwor, an international Master’s student who holds the Canadian Network of Hepatitis C trainee fellowship and is the VP External of the Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology Graduate Student Association.
