Creativity thrives at the Faculty of Medicine, and soon it will be on permanent display at Roger Guindon Hall.
Set to open at the beginning of March, the “Arts in Medicine” Art Wall, located just outside the Atrium in RGN, will display twenty-four works of art created by students within the Faculty of Medicine. This collection of works, which the students have donated or loaned to the school, will be exhibited for one year before it is replaced with a new collection next winter. The donated artworks will then hang permanently on the walls and offices of the medical school.
Art that Expresses the MD and Medical Student Experience
“The pieces displayed on the art wall represent the diversity, passion, reflective insight and personal experience of our student artists,” says Lynn Bloom, Student Project Advisor, Medicine and Humanities Program. “It is also a visual reminder of the many talents that exist within our student body.”
Origins of the Art Wall
The Arts in Medicine student interest group began hosting an annual juried art show about five years ago to showcase the visual talents of the Faculty’s student body. After an initial vernissage, the health sciences library extended the show by displaying the works for several weeks within the library space. Each year, a book has been published to document the artists’ expressions and their works. The blossoming collection of original student art from these annual shows has inspired the Faculty of Medicine to create a permanent exhibition space at the Faculty known as the “Arts in Medicine” Art Wall.
Join us for our first ever Art Wall vernissage
The Medicine and Humanities working group is pleased to invite you to the vernissage of the first annual Art Wall exhibit at Roger Guindon Hall on March 1, 2018, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Guests are welcome to take in the opening ceremonies in Room 2022, admire the Art Wall, and enjoy a student-led guided tour of more original student art located in the library. Refreshments will be served.
