Several individuals from uOttawa have been recognized for excellence and achievement in family medicine by The College of Family Physicians of Canada.

Several individuals from uOttawa have been recognized for excellence and achievement in family medicine by The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) with the recent announcement of their 2016 family medicine award winners.

Recipients were honoured as leaders in family medicine, having made outstanding contributions in the areas of patient care, their communities, medical education, research, and the advancement of family medicine in Canada.

Four uOttawa faculty members appear on this year’s list:

• Dr. Michael Kirlew:
Canadian Family Physician Best Original Research Article
Recognizes the best article published in Canadian Family Physician based on original research by a CFPC member.

• Dr. Alison Eyre:
Jim Ruderman Academic Family Medicine Leadership Award
Recognizes a family physician academic exemplifying wisdom, equanimity, compassion, and the capacity to mentor talented individuals into a dynamic and productive team.

• Dr. Fawzi Mankal:
Bruce Halliday Award for Care of the Disabled
Recognizes a family physician who has made an exceptional contribution to the welfare of the disabled in their community through practice, teaching research or advocacy.

• Dr. Dominika Jegen (shared with a 2nd recipient):
Northern, Rural and Remote Family Practice Marco Terwiel Award
Recognizes family doctors using unique and innovative ways to serve the needs of rural and remote communities.

As well as one resident:
• Dr. Jagdeep Doulla: Family Medicine Resident Leadership Award

And two students:
• Mr. Antony Theogene: Medical Student Scholarship
• Dr. Amanpreet Dhaliwal: Medical Student Leadership Award

The CFPC establishes standards for the training and certification of family physicians in Canada, and accredits postgraduate family medicine training in medical schools across the country.

The Faculty of Medicine wishes to congratulate these individuals for standing out among their peers.
