Dr. Kumanan Wilson has received the Technology & Engineering Ambassador Award, one of five 2018 national awards from Partners in Research (PIR).
Dr. Wilson is a professor of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, and a senior scientist at The Ottawa Hospital. This award recognizes his work in connecting Canadians with each other, their health care providers and their governments via digital health technologies.
Dr. Wilson founded the Ottawa Hospital mHealth Lab in 2014, where he leads engineers and scientists in developing and evaluating mobile apps in various areas of public health. Apps include those relating to immunization (CANImmunize, SafeLiving), emergency medicine (The Ottawa Rules app), kidney disease management (OKKidney) and stroke recovery (RecoverNow).
“Our apps are designed to empower Canadians to better manage their own healthcare, help physicians and improve the health system as a whole,” Dr. Wilson said in his PIR bio.
The University of Ottawa Faculty of Science’s Dr. Jeremy Kerr is also a PIR national award recipient, winning the Science Ambassador Award.
Partners in Research Canada (PIR) is a registered Canadian charity founded in 1988 to help Canadians understand the significance, accomplishments and promise of biomedical research in advancing health and medicine.
