The Faculty of Medicine will host two exciting events this spring and we’re looking to your department, research group, or educational program to participate in one or both events to showcase your world-class work!
Canadian Medical Hall of Fame (CMHF) Discovery Day
On Friday, May 31, 2019, we will host local secondary school students interested in science for our first University of Ottawa CMHF Discovery Day. This is an opportunity for students to explore career options in medicine and health science through interactions with our trainees, researchers, clinicians and educators. Discovery Day is a Canada-wide event with a program that includes a dynamic keynote lecture, a career panel discussion, and numerous interactive workshops.
Audience: Grade 11 students (expect roughly 100-200 students)
How you can be involved: Offer 90-minute interactive workshops that will provide 5-20 students an opportunity to gain access to a real-life work setting within the Faculty of Medicine or associated Research Institutes and Hospitals.
Doors Open Ottawa (DOO)
On Sunday, June 2, 2019 we will welcome the community to Roger Guindon Hall to learn about our innovative research and educational programs. This is our third year participating in DOO, and the past two years have been very popular. Read about last year’s successful DOO event to help generate ideas about how you can contribute to a dynamic program in 2019!
Audience: Members of the public, ages 6+ (300+ in 2018)
How you can be involved: Offer 30-minute interactive workshops, set-up an information booth, be part of career/education panel talks.
We will share applications for both events in 2019. In the meantime, we invite you to tell your team, mark the dates, and reflect on what your participation in one or both of these events might look like!
