Congratulations to this year’s PARO Awards recipients from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. The Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO) is the official representative voice for Ontario’s doctors-in-training, and each year it recognizes outstanding clinical teachers, residents and medical students in faculties of medicine across the province.

2019 PARO Awards Recipients from the University of Ottawa:

Excellence in Clinical Teaching Awards
Dr. David Grynspan, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine

This award acknowledges the essential role that good clinical teachers play in the training of physicians and honours qualities of an excellent teacher such as patient care, quality bedside teaching, and interest in the trainees’ personal development and well-being.

Louis H. Ross Resident Advocate Award
Dr. Lisa Thurgur, Department of Emergency Medicine

This award is given to one individual each year who consistently advocates on behalf of residents and resident issues, within their role as an administrator, program coordinator, teacher or clinician.

Resident Reaching Awards
Dr. Anthea Lafreniere (PGY3), Anatomical Pathology

This award honours residents who have provided outstanding clinical teaching experiences to junior house-staff and clinical clerks.

Citizenship Awards for Medical Students
Ms. Céline Sayed (MD 2021, French Stream)

This award recognizes medical students who, in addition to maintaining an adequate academic standing, have made significant contribution towards improving the general welfare of fellow medical students.
