Our Department has many accomplished members. We welcome Lilia Antonova PhD as our Departmental Clinical Research Associate. Lilia is already involved with many clinical research projects and has facilitated submission of several manuscripts for publication. Lilia joins our Department after a remarkably successful career as a Clinical Research Manager with the Division of Gastroenterology. It is with mixed emotions that we recently learned that Dr. Lisa Caulley is moving to Denmark. Although she will be greatly missed by all of us in Ottawa, Lisa is leaving us to join her husband. Lisa will continue her Departmental research initiatives and continue her work as our Departmental Director of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
Our Postgraduate Program remains in high demand. We had many outstanding applicants to our Residency program. This July, we will welcome Sabreena Lawal and Katie Oxford as our new PGY 1 residents. Dr. Sultan Aljarba, our new internationally sponsored resident has recently joined us as part of the Pre-Entry Assessment Program (PEAP). Congratulations to Kevan Lu, Corliss Best, and Ali Jafar for successfully completing their Royal College examinations. This July, all our PGY 5 residents will start very prestigious Fellowships.
Dr. Yousuf AlQurashi is completing his Head and Neck Oncology Fellowship and will be returning to Saudi Arabia to start his practice. We welcome Dr. Fahad AlZadjali as our new Departmental Head and Neck Oncology Fellow.
Our Departmental members serve on many local, national, and international committees. Thank you to our Faculty members who serve on the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery Examination Board and the Royal College International - Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialization Collaborative Examination Board.
The last 2+ years have been very exhausting for all of us as we try to provide optimal care for patients. The recent Harvard Business Review digital article "Leading an Exhausted Workforce" by Robin Abrahams and Boris Groysberg (March 25, 2022) provides extremely helpful advice for coping with these difficult times. Certainly, it is important to look after yourself and spend time with family and friends.
Our Department remains committed to excellence in patient care, research and innovation, continuous quality improvement, and medical education. It is an honour for me to serve as Department Chair. I hope you find our website informative.
