Radiation Oncology supports medical student electives from University of Ottawa as well as visiting electives. Medical students from Mandatory Selective and Surgical Selective programs are supported in a one week elective.
Individuals can request Pre-Clerkship (year 1 and 2) or Clerkship (Year 3 and 4) electives in Radiation Oncology. Pre-clerkship electives are designed to assist the individual in familiarizing themselves with a hospital and clinical setting as well as better preparing them in their residency choice.
Students are assigned to work with 1 or 2 physicians and attend clinics, observation clinics as well as treatment planning session during their elective (ranging from 10 hours to 2 weeks). Our preceptors are patient and knowledgeable as well as skillful in their teaching methods. The individuals are also encouraged to attend the Academic ½ day that our Residents attend in addition to any of the morning and noon hour rounds. They will also be provided with a teaching session in Radiation Oncology by a Senior Resident.
