The French Immersion Stream can help students find research placement in French-speaking companies in Montréal, a hub in the biotechnological sector in Canada and a logical job market. Students will also have a better access to positions in government laboratories wherein bilingualism is a key criterion for hiring and promotion.

Students who want to add the French Immersion Stream to their program of study must meet the following criteria.

• Applied in the English stream of the TMM program.
• Be enrolled in the French Immersion Stream in their previous program.  
• Have successfully completed at least 7 courses (21 units) in French during their first two years of study. 

1. Students must meet all the requirements of the TMM program.
    
2. In alignment with the Faculty of Science requirements for French immersion students, in order to graduate in the TMM program with the mention of French immersion on their diploma, students will have to have completed at least 14 courses (42 units) whose language of instruction is French, including:

• a minimum of 8 courses (24 units) offered in French within the Faculty of Science or the Faculty of Medicine;
• a minimum of 6 courses (18 units) offered in French at the 3000 or 4000 levels offered in TMM;
• a minimum of 2 courses (6 units) offered in French within the Humanities;
• during their 3rd and 4th year, students must complete one elective course (3 units) offered in French.

   3. Students must successfully complete FLS3500, the University’s Second Language Certification Test.

Fourth-year courses

• TMM 4501- Introduction à la biologie du cancer (3 units)
• TMM 4504 - Biologie des systèmes : Réseaux régulateurs des gènes dans les maladies (3 units)
• TMM4700 - Sujets choisis en recherche biomédicale (3 units)
• TMM 4702 - Médecine régénérative (3 units) 

Important note : Some courses are offered every year, others in alternating years.

Students who are not yet in the TMM program can add the French Immersion Stream option when submitting their application for admission using the OUAC platform.  

The French Immersion Stream will not be added automatically to applicants’ program even if they were in the stream in their previous program.  

Newly admitted students who wish to add the French Immersion Stream for the upcoming fall term can submit a request to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office by email at [email protected] between March 30 to August 15 along with a Modification/Cancellation of Enrolment form.

Students who are enroled in the French Immersion Streams and which to remove the option from their program must submit a request to the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Office by email at [email protected] with a Modification/Cancellation of Enrolment form.

Period to request a change of program

• Fall term: March 30 to August 15
• Winter term: October 1 to November 30

Once enrolled in the stream, the French Immersion designation will be visible on the student transcript (unofficial and official) and on the diploma if all of the program requirements were met.
