Biography

Dr. Desrochers is a recognized expert in the analysis of sedimentary basins. He is also known for his research on ancient carbonate rocks, which contain more than half of the world’s petroleum, a large portion of its water and nearly all of its caves. His team seeks to understand the Earth’s fossil records, particularly those of Anticosti Island, an exceptional geosite recognized worldwide for its abundant, 445 million year-old fossils. Dr. Desrochers is one of the leaders of IGCP 591—The Early to Middle Paleozoic Revolution, a joint project of UNESCO and the International Union of Geological Sciences, which brings together more than 400 scientists seeking to understand this important period in the history and evolution of life on our planet.
