Team up with one of Canada’s top Physics departments, supported by our award-winning faculty. Students have the opportunity to work with many Canada Research Chairs and a Canada Excellence Research Chair.

Ottawa, the “top tech centre in Canada”, is an optimal setting for finding opportunities for employment in Physics – whether the goal is to develop new devices or teach in the classroom.

Conduct leading-edge research

Our students study through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Physics, which offers advanced courses from both uOttawa and Carlton University. Our program includes research in the:

  • International Photonics Centre with ties to Engineering researchers
  • Largest concentration of Biological Physics faculty
  • Rapidly growing field of Material Physics

Highly qualified students benefit from competitive financial support packages and teaching assistantships.

Access world-renowned laboratories

Our facilities include new state-of-the-art buildings:

  • Advanced Research Complex (ARC), housing Photonics and materials physics labs
  • STEM Complex, housing Biological physics labs and materials physics labs

Short duration master’s

The master’s in applied physics will help you develop new ways of answering questions like these: How can we send messages through space using light without being intercepted? Design new materials to store quantum information? Measure the concentration of key molecules characteristic of defective cells? The program will equip you with an in-depth understanding of the nature of physics as practised in the workplace, in an environment filled with entrepreneurial spirit.
