Overview

The Faculty of Science is committed to entrepreneurship, either through activities, training, programs, or support of ideas and initiatives from its students, staff or professors. Central to our vision is that scientists and staff with entrepreneurship skills are in high demand.

If you are interested in entrepreneurship and want to pursue on that path, explore the ecosystem of programs, events and resources available both within and outside the Faculty of Science.

Microprogram in Science Entrepreneurship

The Microprogram in Science Entrepreneurship provides an introduction to business management, new venture creation and entrepreneurship that will allow you to take a new scientific idea to market. It also includes a course on creativity and innovation, and a fourth year capstone course specifically dealing with commercializing a scientific product.

The 15-unit (five course) microprogram can be incorporated into a Honours BSc program.

Graduate Entrepreneurship Experience Program (GEEP)

The Graduate Entrepreneurship Experience Program (GEEP) is an experiential program for graduate students interested in innovation and possibly in starting a business and learning the fundamentals of entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship Hub

The Entrepreneurship Hub provides the resources, programs and networks to support students at any point in their entrepreneurial or intrapreneurial journey, whether they are dreaming about launching their own business, pursuing their ideas or seeking to acquire entrepreneurial skills for the job market.

Innovation Support Services

Innovation Support Services offers support in partnership development with government and industry, as well as expertise in invention disclosures, patents, agreements with partners, start-ups and entrepreneurship, among others.

Startup Garage

Startup Garage is a 4-month pre-accelerator program led by the University of Ottawa’s Entrepreneurship Hub to foster and support entrepreneurship. Startup Garage offers funding, space, mentorship and training.

Our team

Faculty Research Advisors are there to support researchers in their quests for research funding. They accomplish this by reviewing proposals, interpreting and understanding funding programs, and providing strategic advice to researchers regarding these. Research advisors also support researchers in navigating partnership grants and other Ontario / Canadian programs that support innovation, technology development and commercialization.
