Mentoring is a type of professional relationship between a student/young alumnus (mentee) interested in gaining insight and information and preparing for the job market and an experienced person (mentor) working in a field related to the mentee’s program.
Being part of a mentorship benefits the mentor and mentee as it provides the opportunity:
Mentees
- To develop transferable skills and professional networks;
- To think about the job market and professional fields related to their program.
Mentors
- To share experiences and knowledge about the working world;
- To enhance leadership skills by working with a mentee.
Who are the mentors?
Your mentor will be a uOttawa alumnus with work experience that lines up with your interests.
Who are the mentees?
This competitive program is open to all Science undergrad students in their fourth year of study.
How does the mentorship work?
A mentor will be selected for you in February. The program runs throughout the winter term. During that time, you will set up about three meetings in total with your mentor (can be as few as two but no more than five).
To get the most out of the mentorship, we will equip you with guidelines and specific questions to get the conversation started with your mentor.
For assistance throughout the program, mentors and mentees can contact the Mentorship Coordinator: Laila El Haddou Yousfi.
