Resources

Resources for graduate students

Work spaces for doctoral students

In August, the Coordinator or Operations or the Academic Assistant sends an e-mail to ask doctoral students if they are interested in sharing a work space. If they are, they must let the Secretariat know, in writing. The matching of doctoral students to a workstation is done randomly as the Coordinator conducts a draw for the assignment of work spaces.

Work spaces for master’s students

In September, the Academic Assistant sends an e-mail to all M.A. students to inform them of the new door code for the M.A. study rooms. Please note that these study rooms are on the basis of “first come/first serve”. A student may occupy any available workstation for several hours but must clear that station at the end of the day.

Group study room

The University of Ottawa Graduate Student Association has a study room located at 601 Cumberland which graduate students may rent. For room availability, please contact the GSAÉD.

Teaching and Research Assistantships

A month before the start of the semester, the Department will inform students of the posting dates for teaching assistantships. Students must consult the postings on Workday for internal applicants, and on the University of Ottawa Careers website for external applicants. Postings will be up for 10 business days. The research assistantships positions can be posted at any time on the University of Ottawa Careers website.

Please note that students who receive an admissions scholarship must complete a job application form.  We assume that scholarship holders who do not submit an application for a TA are declining any position for that semester.

For assistance, contact the Social Sciences Librarian: Alain El Hofi, [email protected], 613-562-5800 extension 7186, FSS 2010.

Graduate Student Association

The Criminology Graduate Student Association represents all graduate students registered in a program at the Department of Criminology.

Each year, in September, an executive is elected at a general assembly.  Positions are open to all CRM graduate students.  During the year, the Association represents graduate students at different levels in the University (at School meetings, the TA union SFCP/CUPE 2626, as well as the Graduate Student Association at the University of Ottawa).
