Ilke Adam's (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) conference on "Anti-Racism in Europe. Public policies and social movements"

Ilke Adam is an Associate Professor in Political Science. She is the co-director of the Research Centre for Migration, Diversity and Justice at the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). Together with Florian Trauner, she also coordinates the Brussels Interdisciplinary Research centre on Migration and Minorities (BIRMMexternal link) at VUB, which unites over 100 researchers from 12 disciplines. She graduated in law (Universities of Leuven and Barcelona) and political science (Institut d’Etudes Politiques, Université Aix-Marseille III & Université Libre de Bruxelles PhD).

Her research interests include immigration, immigrant integration, anti-racism and anti-discrimination policies, with a particular focus on the multi-level governance of these policies. She studies local, regional, national and European policies, as well as the interactions between governance levels. Beyond research on public policies, Adam's research interests extend to the study of multiculturalism, citizenship, sub-state nationalism,  anti-racist activism and ethno-racial inequalities in higher education.

Ilke Adam is currently a consortium partner in two Horizon 2020 projects: BRIDGESexternal link on the production and impact of migration narratives (with a focus on West-Africa) and WHOLE-COMexternal link on integration policies for post-2015 migrants in small and medium-sized towns (focus on Belgium). She presently also conducts research and prepares publications on anti-racist activism in Europe and EU-Africa relations on migration.
