The Graduate Studies Office

The Graduate Studies Office (GSO) at the Faculty of Social Sciences works very closely with colleagues within each of our nine academic units. The GSO handles the admissions process, awards internal grants, and processes evaluations of external grants, program creation requests, and program change requests. It ensures the quality of the services offered to graduate students. The GSO is also an important resource for academic units: it helps them address questions or concerns about current and future students enrolled in the Faculty’s graduate programs.
For admission into the Fall 2021 term, the GSO, along with the Faculty academic units, assessed 2,868 applications to our graduate studies programs:

Applications

Based on the admission criteria established by the academic units, the GSO sent out 964 offers of admission:

  • 2,389 applications
    • 353 applications for doctoral programs
    • 2,036 applications for master's programs
    • 1,107 applications were from International applicants
    • 1,282 applications were from Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
    • 673 offers were accepted
    • 400 students actually enrolled in one of our programs

In addition to admission scholarships, the Graduate Studies Office, in collaboration with the staff in the academic units, managed some 600 scholarship applications (OGS, Vanier, NSERC programs, etc.). Many of these applications were successful, and so, a high percentage of students received one of these prestigious scholarships. Furthermore, certain highly qualified international students were awarded full or partial international scholarships.
